Promoting the study of Romanian language for children of Moldovan citizens living in Prague, discussed with Diana Băbălău

The Diaspora Relations Bureau team recently hosted the visit of Diana Băbălău, journalist, representative of the Moldovan community in the Czech Republic, an active young woman involved in promoting Moldovan traditions and culture in the diaspora.

Diana Băbălău, who has been away from the Republic of Moldova for five years, shared her experiences and challenges in the host country, referring to the importance of strengthening the cultural and social ties of community members. An important aspect of the discussion was the beautiful events organised by our compatriot, with the aim of promoting Moldovan traditions and customs. Diana Băbălău also enthusiastically referred to the initiatives supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Czech Republic, which on the one hand highlight the richness and splendour of the heritage of the Republic of Moldova, and on the other hand build bridges between people with the same origins and ideas who are far from home.

In the same vein, Diana Băbălău expressed her willingness to organize Romanian language lessons for children from the Moldovan diaspora in the host country. Support measures that could be offered for this purpose were discussed. Some of these are training courses for teachers, as well as A1 and A2 level Romanian language learning-teaching manuals, based on a curriculum developed by the National Association of European Trainers, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Research.

The dialogue was constructive and provided an opportunity to initiate new projects and collaborations between diaspora members and BRD.  We thank Diana Băbălău for the emotions she relived and the plans she is working on, and wish her success, inspiration and frequent returns to her homeland.

Sharing experiences and drawing inspiration from successful examples to support the return and reintegration of citizens in our country

We were privileged to host a special presentation by the Executive Director of REPAT Armenia, Vartan Marashlyan, who brought to our attention the inspirational example of Armenia in stimulating the return and reintegration of their citizens.

Together with the Diaspora Relations Bureau team, we discussed the importance of adopting and adapting best practices to facilitate the return process of those who have left the country. This is a topic of utmost importance, considering that one-third of our fellow citizens are living outside the borders of the country.

We are committed to implementing effective policies that encourage and facilitate their return home. The State Secretary of the Government, Ana Calinici, underlined this and highlighted continued efforts to create a conducive environment for returning to the country.

We also presented our policy documents - the National Programme "Diaspora" 2024-2028 and the National Programme for stimulating returns and facilitating the (re)integration of Moldovan citizens involved in the migration process for the years 2023-2027. These initiatives pursue clear objectives and concrete actions to support our communities abroad in their return and reintegration process.

We were pleased to have representatives from various institutions such as the Ministry of Education and Research, the National Employment Agency, the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship, the Invest Moldova Agency, the Customs Service, the National Office of Social Insurance and the Alliance of Native Associations. They also emphasized the importance of joint efforts and presented the opportunities offered to support the return and reintegration process.

During this meeting, we shared and learned from Armenia's experience in stimulating the return and reintegration of their citizens. We discussed about the development of relationships between the country of origin and communities abroad, effective communication strategies and methods for monitoring and evaluating policies in this area.

We are determined to continue this collaboration and bring positive changes that encourage and facilitate the return and reintegration of our fellow citizens.

The event took place with the support of the projects "Support for diaspora governance, migration and development by improving policy and institutional frameworks" under the Programme "Harnessing the potential of migration in the Republic of Moldova", phase III, funded by the Swiss Cooperation Office, as well as the "Policy Advice Fund", funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Moldova.

The meeting was attended by people who have returned from Poland, Spain, USA, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Russian Federation, Germany and launched small businesses in various fields at home. Some of them had already benefited from institutional support in this regard.  The discussions highlighted several aspects of the return and reintegration process. Participants shared their own experiences of the challenges they faced or continue to face during the process. In this context, transparent communication between citizens and state institutions, simplification of bureaucratic procedures, improvement of the implementation and enforcement of legal provisions were identified as important pillars that facilitate the creation of a conducive environment for returning and reintegrating. Last but not least, the necessity and importance of the support from local public authorities were confirmed.

Additionally, the Guide for the reintegration of Moldovan citizens returning from abroad was presented, aiming to provide support and necessary information about the services offered by the state. The document also refers to employment opportunities, access to training, vocational training and career guidance services, access to state funds for starting a business and consultancy services in business management. The guide also provides essential details about social integration services, such as enrolling children in the education system, social and medical insurance, and facilitating access to housing.

In conclusion, emphasis was placed on the need to set up information and support centres for citizens returning from abroad, as well as the targeted orientation of efforts to promote initiatives in this field, based on the specific needs of the different groups of returnees.

The ways of implication of qualified diaspora from Denmark were discussed at the BRD

Romeo Țurcan, president of the Association of Moldovans from Denmark, professor of innovation and business at the University of Aalborg, together with the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in the Kingdom of Denmark, Mr. Asser Mortensen and his wife Lucia Mortensen, who also works within the University of Aalborg, were the guests of the Diaspora Relations Bureau (BRD).

The discussions focused primarily on the way to capitalize the potential of the highly qualified diaspora from Denmark, by getting involved in the development of several fields in the Republic of Moldova. In this context, the BRD team mentioned the need to provide expertise and the intention to develop a functional mechanism in this sense for the central public authorities.

Our guests were also interested in the opportunities of the Thematic Grant Program „Diaspora Engagement Hub”  for the purpose of organizing cultural events in Denmark. A pleasant surprise for the guests was the information about the DOR Program "Diaspora Origins Returns", being impressed by the fact that children from the diaspora have the opportunity to get to know the traditions and history of the Republic of Moldova, through the DOR.

The head of the BRD, Nadejda Zubco, expressed her joy to see our compatriots again, noting the openness of collaboration in order to realize some common initiatives. And because we are in the midst of preparations for the Diaspora Days, Nadejda Zubco launched the invitation to participate at the Diaspora Congress and the Diaspora Business Forum, coming up with the suggestion to mobilize Moldovans from the Kingdom of Denmark to register for these two events on the platform www .congresuldiasporei.gov.md.

The event „Port IE cu mândrie”, organized by the Moldavians from Cantabria

The association „Din Inima Diasporei Unite” brought together folklore lovers from Cantabria (Spain) at the 3rd edition of the gala „Port IE cu mândrie”, organized on June 18.

More than 100 citizens from the diaspora put on the most valuable coat in the wardrobe - IA and showed, together with their families, on an improvised catwalk, being greeted with bread and salt.

„We have roots that cannot be cut or forgotten. We have a culture without which we would lose the human values that were passed down to us from our ancestors. What we do today is the education of our children, it is their respect towards us, towards our country, towards our parents. If we do not inculcate these values in them, as adults they will not be able to find themselves in any nation. Our people everywhere are esteemed, appreciated and loved, it remains only for us to do it: to love ourselves” - said at the opening of the gala, Ludmila Gaber Stratan, president of the „Din Inima Diasporei Unite” association.

Guests enjoyed music and dance recitals by local artists and ensembles and had the opportunity to enter two competitions, which awarded prizes for the most delicious pies and the most successful fruit composition. They also had the opportunity to purchase organic blueberries grown by Andriana Caraman from Bessarabia and the artisan candies produced by the Romanov family both in the Republic of Moldova and in Spain. The guests of the event were the members of the „Balada” Cultural Center (Provincia Asturias), who presented a suite of dances.

The „ Port IE cu mândrie” gala is the first event organized by the association „Din Inima Diasporei Unite”, in 2021, on Holy Sunday.

The last lesson of Romanian language from this year, held at the Educational Center within the Orthodox church „Sfântul Gheorghe” from Schio

The children who attend the Educational Center within the Orthodox church „Sfântul Gheorghe”  ifrom Schio, Vicenza region, Italy, participated at a beautiful event on the occasion of the International Children's Day, as well as the end of the Romanian language course from this academic year.

The students presented their parents with a poetry recital, sang and read stories in Romanian, demonstrating their knowledge improved in the period of learning.

At the end of the academic year, Liuba Streșină, teacher and founder of the Educational Center from Schio, sent a message of thanks to all those who believed in his soul project through which he managed to sow in the hearts of his disciples that little grain of love towards the Romanian language and our traditions.

„The Romanian language is also learned at great distances from home, in this way we keep the spiritual connection with our native country and build bridges between generations, passing on to our children what we hold dearest. It was a new experience for all of us, only through work and effort did we manage to get here. I would like to thank my parents and students who believed in this project and, last but not least, a big thank you to the Diaspora Relations Office and ANTEM for the teaching support provided with the free title", said Liuba Streșină.

We mention that the Diaspora RelationsBureau (BRD) and the National Association of European Trainers from Moldova (ANTEM) offered the manual ”Învățăm limba română împreună. Primii Pași. Manual pentru copiii din diasporă. Nivelului A1".
